Acupressure, or Shiatsu, is a form of Japanese therapy that uses the hands and fingers to apply pressure to points on the body to relieve pain and correct energy flow. There are many pressure points on the body to alleviate headaches and pains, but this one, called the “Union Valley,” is an easy one that anyone can do. Just squeeze firmly with the thumb and forefinger on the mound of flesh between your opposite thumb and forefinger, and relief should be almost instantaneous.
There are a few things you can watch out for in order to avoid—or at least be aware of—migraines and headaches; tobacco, alcohol and fermented foods are a big contributor, along with stress, sleeping disorders, and tension from work or school. Also, many women experience headaches due to hormonal changes, such as during puberty and menstrual cycles, so be sure to rest often and eat well during these times.
